New Database Available

Spring training is just around the corner, and while neither Ty Cobb or Joe Jackson will be around this year, another old reliable will -- the Lahman Baseball Database. A team of researchers has completed the integration of 2006 playing statistics, and they have spent the last 12 months making additions and improvements. It's the most complete set of baseball data available anywhere, with full statistics from 1871-2006.

Catching Up With Sean Lahman

Sean Lahman launched this website in 1995, created the Lahman Baseball Database, and in the decade that followed has written or edited nine books and contributed to more than a dozen others. He has also been a sports columnist for the New York Sun.

Sean's official website contains an archive of his newspaper columns and information about his latest projects. He also shares his thoughts on sports, history, current events, and the convergence of all three in his new blog.

Notes From the Shadows of Cooperstown

Poet. Playwright. Pirates fan. Two Finger Carney is all of those things, and more. In the latest edition of Notes from the Shadows of Cooperstown, he offers his own unique thoughts on the game and his observations from outside the lines.

Carney’s latest book is Burying the Black Sox: How Baseball's Cover-up of the 1919 World Series Fix Almost Succeeded.

Rose's Admission

Pete Rose has publicly admitted to what we all knew; that he bet on baseball while serving as manager of the Reds.  So what's next?  Sean Lahman, who has frequently written on the case, checked in with his thoughts on the day Rose confessed and what it means both for him and for baseball.

For more information on the Rose case, including answers to frequently asked questions, an online version of the Dowd Report, and other content, visit our special section.
