
The Baseball Writers Association of America elected three players for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame - pitcher Nolan Ryan, thirdbaseman George Brett, and shortstop/center fielder Robin Yount. The Hall of Fame Veterans Committee will meet on March 2 to consider Negro Leagues players, umpires, managers, club executives and eligible major leaguers (see the official press release from the Baseball Hall of Fame).
The induction ceremonies will be held in Cooperstown, New York
on Sunday July 25 (click here for more information)
1999 Ballotting
As announced January 5, 1999 by the Baseball Writers Association
of America. A total of 497 ballots were cast. Seventy-five
percent (374 votes) was needed for election. Five percent (24
votes) was needed for an individual to remain on the ballot.
Players marked with an asterisk (*) have appeared on the ballot for fifteen years without being elected, and will thus be ineligble for future ballots (they can still be selected by the Veteran's Committee).
Players marked with a cross (+) appeared on the ballot for the first time.
